Evo Gone, ARC now?

I guess ARC declared bankruptcy because alot of their EVO counterparts will be going down in flames soon too!

They only declared, which always means there’s hope for a restructuring!

Passed out at 9pm last night after an amazing dinner cooked by Sushi. Woke up at 4am ugh. Had trouble sleeping, felt like forever. Ended up going into work a bit earlier. Decided to bring a camera to work hoping to take some pictures.. Even put in an empty 8gb CF and a 8gb SD.. Haven’t gotten any shots yet.

PS3 Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter

Aim better, move faster, ownage never comes easier. The Eagle Eye Converter lets you use a keyboard and mouse to control the game instead of a traditional PS3 hand-held controller. Customize your keys and start playing within minutes. The Eagle Eye is equipped with high-capacity CPU, making the mouse movement fluid with no delay and no dead-zone. Remember how easy it was to play first person shooters on a PC? Bring that experience to your PS3!

  • Converts your USB keyboard and mouse into a Playstation 3 controller
  • Easy Plug and Play setup. Fully customize your keys and start playing in minutes
  • Designed with first person shooter games in mind. Aim better and move more accurately, move faster. Ownage never becomes easier!
  • Equipped with a high-capacity CPU resulting in fluid mouse movement, no delays or dead zones!

Wow. That’s basically what I have to say about this thing. All the crap you try to get the kb/m combo to work on a console has never been so exact and precise. This thing works as it should, that is.. with some time setting it up and fine tuning the calibrations.

I ordered mine off Amazon with a coupon and got it 2 days later. Typical, made in China =)
Came in a box of a box.

Looked almost like my chinese knock-off Canon hood packaging.. a white box packaging the product’s box. haha. After getting the unit out of the packaging, I immediately noticed how cheaply made the unit was. It sure looks good but holding it, the thing weighed next to nothing and you get the crappy plastic feel to the product. I feel as if I can break it in one drop. The USB wire comes useful as it’s over 6ft long!

In fine print, the label says “YOU MUST CALIBRATE ON YOUR COMPUTER FIRST!”
Make sure that this is not plug and play. You need to plug the unit into your x32 Windows based PC to set it up. YES 32-BIT ONLY! Luckily I had a Win7 x32 install on my slow godzilla laptop. Once I assigned all the keys, I jumped on the PS3. Whoa it was CRAP.

So I went online and looked up more information about the unit. Turns out the support base is GREAT. Forum support and ongoing development and firmware upgrades. I ended up flashing my unit to the most up to date firmware which included a advanced sensitivity tweak addition! The walkthroughs included many pictures and even some videos done by forum regulars or by the EagleEye guys. Much of the fine tuning is done in-game by hitting the F-number keys on the kb.. then going back to the PC to sync and save your fine tunes. After a few hours of tweaking the EagleEye adapter was playable.

Now, to fully use the adapter to its full potential.. you need to get a good mouse. There is a list of approved mice on the EagleEye forums. I picked up a Logitech MX518. Proven to be amazing on the PC, I figured it would be great with the adapter. The sensitivity buttons on the mouse itself is a GREAT feature for the EagleEye (more on this later). I also used my Dell OEM crap office special KB.

The keyboard worked fine as is, no tweaks. The mouse was tweaked alot. Most reviews say the mouse isn’t smooth due to the adapter trying to emulate the right stick movements, however if you get the tweaks right.. it feels just about the same! I’m using my mouse on a couch, so the laser might not be reading to its full potential (i know this for a fact). A downside of playing on a 84″ projector screen I guess. The DPI buttons became essential in Black Ops due to the need to adjust sensitivity when using the RC explosive car and the Valkyrie rockets. For some reason when you try to control these with a mouse, the movements get dwarfed and you have to really move the mouse alot. Luckily with a quick tap on the DPI button to raise the DPI, you can easily turn the Valkyrie or RC into a full 360 with just a short flick of the wrist! I tended to use the middle DPI setting for normal usage and the higher DPI setting for the RC/Valkyrie.

After playing a few weeks with the adapter, I’ve noticed that it can get buggy. Sometimes the unit gets glitchy and stops responding. This has happened maybe 2 times out of the 40 or so hours of game time. The popular start menu and turbo issue everyone complained about only happened once during my game time. Maybe I don’t play enough to have it show up more. Overall I think the product is good. The build quality took a major hit and because of that I really think it should be cheaper than the listed $59.99. Maybe $39.99 would make it a much more popular accessory. Because of this unit, I don’t think I will buy any more Call of Duty games for PC unless I have friends playing on exclusively on the PC. Most of my friends are console nuts and now I can join in without the frustration of the PS3/Xbox360 Controller!

I’ve also attached my custom settings if anyone wants to try them out!
